I believe adding dialogue to first pen would make the story longer but also help you understand what happened when he first got the pen from his dad. the tone in this chapter is excited and loving.
i think if Fletcher added dialogue it would be give it more of a specific tone. For example, he could of put dialogue about what his reaction to the BIC was and what some of the parts in the story he wrote. i think if he added dialogue it would of been better.I think the tone could be like amazed/amused.
i think adding diolouge would make the reader more interested. i agree with danny the tone is boring, and yes adding diolouge would improve the chapter.
Mrs. Heer,
I was wondering how much classwork points the field trip is worth and how many points will be taken off for not dressing up and how much extra credit is offered for wearing a tie.

Ralf Flecher must love his life as a kid because he seems to talk only about good things that have happened.
